Hi all, I have a salary review coming up at the end of a probation period and do not want to undervalue myself. I really dislike the job but there is not much choice out there at the moment so hope to at least try and feel better about it with a pay raise. I am hopeless at asking for these and took the job at same salary as previously furloughed job in desperation. Employer asked what I want and didn't quibble. I would really appreciate anyone saying what they think I should ask for (and then I'll probably ask for much lower than that or not at all argh...!!) Tips on how to ask very very welcome.
I'm 27, and a Marketing Manager for a small family business (6 employees). This is my 6th year of marketing experience. I have a business degree and am halfway through my self funded CIM qualification. I currently earn £25K. There is minimum holiday and no benefits, no sick pay or anything like that. Hire and fire culture, we were going to get a mortgage but don't dare as it's such an awful culture.
Key responsibilities/achievements over first 5 months include:
-sourcing and working with agency to have complex e-commerce site built. This is up and running and on the way to paying off costs in one year instead of the predicted 3 years.
-implemented changes in stock keeping and taking processes. (When the company decided to embrace e-commerce no one had twigged that they needed to know what products they actually owned as these did not match inventory system). This has involved labelling, barcoding and all associated research and systems.
-Segmentation project with mailchimp data, using excel/v look ups to look up previous customer purchases and campaigns to get people to update preferences. Resulted in +45% open rate and +6% click through rate.
-Set up of automated customer journey e-mails to save time on manually sending follow ups which ask for reviews and to save abandoned carts.
-All copywriting for website, e-mails and blog articles. It's a niche industry so these take a lot of research.
-Reaching out to the press, resulting in getting an editorial page in major homes and gardens magazine scheduled in for later in the Spring.
-Management and training of one office assistant
-Product photography
-Product sourcing for some areas of the business. 340% sales growth in area I responsible for compared to same period last year.
-Future plans include implementing a CRM system.
-Social media responsibility but admittedly have not had time for much.
-Informal change management - constant uphill battle to implement improvements need to support change to e-commerce/marketing in general. Needs careful balance between letting the men (I'm the only woman) thinking it was all their idea, praising them enthusiastically for tiny efforts and occasionally just being incredible firm about what is needed and pointing it where what we currently do is failing us; illegal, detrimental etc.
If anyone does anything remotely similar or has perhaps hired or manages someone in this role I would love to benchmark where I am and what I should be aiming for, even if its for a move in a year or so.
Thank you so much
