Temping these days

NC as this is all very tentative and I don't want to out myself.

Currently living abroad but hoping to move family back. I'm working towards a career change and ideally hoping to find a job in the new sector, but am well aware that that might not be possible for many reasons.

I used to temp a lot 20 years ago, and was good at hitting the ground running and doing the job well. This was in London and I worked in both public and private sectors. Some secretarial type and some more content-based (adminy but with career content if that makes sense). My question is, do temp agencies even take on people in their mid forties who might be overqualified (and possibly under experienced now for the kinds of jobs they have)? Or would they take me one but never actually get me an assignment? I'm looking at both London and the midlands as potential places to live. Obviously London is scary without a job, but also has (or had in the past) more and better paid temping options.

Any thoughts gratefully received!

The template market in London has gone really scarce. Hardly any sec or PA roles which used to pay really well £15 p) hr. Still lots of reception work, but £9 an hour. I used to live in the Midlands & both sec & reception were scarce. But call center at £6 an hour quite easy to get. HTH.

Thanks, it's good to know. I assumed things were quieter but good to have some precise info. It's frightening how little wages have changed in 25 years compared with the massive increase in house prices Shock
