I currently have a job for which I'm grateful but it's a very small family run company. My boss (the owner) threatens to close each day. It's very quiet at the moment and I am at risk of redundancy as there is other full time staff they will keep over me.

I interviewed for (and got a job as receptionist) last week, a much large company so will have to get used to proper procedures again etc as my company doesn't even have a hr department. But it's at a college, this college ranges from gcse students to university and adult learning. It is currently open for students who don't have WiFi or equipment or vulnerable students etc by appointment only. It's a big company so I know they wouldn't hire if they were going to make me redundant but it does worry me that it's not a secure job! But then I'm not in a secure job anyway right now,

What would you do? I am aware it's a good problem to have in this current situation and for that I am very grateful but it still doesn't stop my anxiety or making the right decision to be able to support my family and baby!

Opinions so very appreciate thank you!

Jesus take the job!!!

EduCated · 24/01/2021 12:32

Take it. With both hands. As fast as you can.

Take the job....

3...2...1.... right now!

Gizlotsmum · 24/01/2021 12:35

I would take the new job. I assume that as your current job is so informal you would have to fight for any redundancy entitlement, very few places would hire if they felt redundancies were in the offing, they could have utilised a temp. Education will resume.

Thank you!!! Sorry I should have added I have accepted the job but I can't hand in my notice until my DBS check comes back which I'm not worried about at all. I was just wondering if I had made the right decision as I could still back out! But thank you you have reassured me I have!

I worked for a very small business for 10 years and it was a rollercoaster quite a lot of the time. In your position I would take the new job, there's probably more security and being a little bit further away from the engine room can be a good thing. Ignorance is bliss some of the time.

@TheTeenageYears I know exactly what you mean!!! Sometimes I get told things and I think I really didn't want to know that?! It's also run by 4 family members & we get dragged into all sorts of personal issues!!

You have definitely done the right thing by taking the new job- congratulations!

@ivfbabymomma1 if your experience is anything like mine the high times are great.... for them but you are far too close to the low's.
