Handing notice in - advice

Does anyone have any advice on handing my notice in, on a three month notice period?
I am support staff in a private school, only worked there a year. In all that time we've been locked down more time than open, I've only done one term and most of the time we've been on furlough pay. As I'm part-time anyway, the money just isn't enough. I want to leave and find work closer to home and with a bit more pay and stability.

My contract says 3 month's notice. At the moment we're on furlough (again) which seems the wrong time to be handing in my notice. I'd rather wait. If I handed my notice in during the summer term, would I be paid until the end of the summer holidays? And what if lockdown/furlough happens all over again? Is my notice period paid at my 100% salary rate or at 80% furlough rate?

Stay on furlough until the end of the scheme. There are jobs being advertised but they don’t actually exist. I phoned the main recruiter for my sector and they had nothing to offer. Everything was speculative. 15 of us lost jobs in September and nobody is in a new job. If you think it’s hard now think about people who lost their jobs with no support and can’t claim universal credit. I have a friend who is getting £400 a month universal credit and she is heading for bankruptcy. Don’t do it

Your notice would be at furlough rate if you’re not working and full if you are. State school teachers aren’t paid for all of the school holidays, so it would depend on your contract what you would get paid if your notice extended across the holidays.

Thanks for helpful replies. Yes, probably wise to stay where I am for now and see what happens.....

Definitely don't move until you actually have something else. Get an additional PT job if you really need to. I actually think working in a school - even with the low pay - is one of the safest areas (re potential job losses) to work in especially now.

An employer can’t use the job retention scheme (furlough pay) if someone is on notice period. So they have to pay you in full whilst on notice. But do check that with Acas.

Ah, thank you for that Dee1975, I will check that out.
