WWYD? Civil service changing departments when pregnant

Hi - I have applied for a job at a new department and found out I was pregnant after when i accepted the role. The thing is in the new dept. the maternity package is that it states you have to use your annual leave before your leave, before you go on leave or before you come back. In the current dept. that i am in I can use my accrued annual leave how i wish to e.g. to phase into work when i return. additionally in the new dept. it states you have to come back for 3 months, and in my current it is only 1 month.I applied for a new role as i thought it would be something more interesting. What would you do, change roles or just stick where you are? Should i not move based on these differences, or in actual fact it won't make too much of a difference once you're there. I'm unsure whether i would return full time or part time... more then likely i think it would be part time. Should i make a change now or jsut stick to where i am ?

I am a FTM mum and a bit confused.

Hi beebop, that maternity package sounds a bit odd, not that I don’t believe you, I’m just not sure it’s possible for them to dictate that you use your leave in a lump as part of your mat leave. My guess is whatever they say on paper the reality is different. I’ve been in two different CS depts for mat leave and phased return/flexible working requests (even if temporary) were always in discussion with my line manager and easy to do. The coming back for 3 months is pretty standard for anywhere with enhanced maternity packages, but if you wanted to leave then you would take into account your accrued annual leave, reducing the 3month notice. And if you transferred within the CS you’d have continuous service so you should just be able to give the standard 4 weeks notice. Not sure if any of that helps, but if you like the new post and want to move then I wouldn’t let the difference in maternity be the decider.

Hi there thanks for the message. Yep I fully understand sgdy you're saying in my previous and current dept. It has nothing about how you can use your annual leave. That's why I'm in two minds...it feels very archaic as a policy

Can you have a conversation with the new line manager before deciding, rather than deciding based on paper?
