What if boss finds out I attended online interview during working hours?

I've recently had a couple of virtual job interviews whilst working from home in current job. I have another one lined up next week but have been thinking about what to say to my manager (if I'm lucky enough to get an offer from one of the interviews).
Say I'm handing in my notice and the manager asks anything like "when was the interview?" or if she finds out it was during work's time, how do I respond?
I'm entitled to 20 minutes break per shift, so I would probably say "I arranged for for my breaktime.." . Could I get in trouble if she finds out it was an early morning interview, or late afternoon (in other words not near my breaktime)?

Why would you answer a question like that? It’s none of their business .
I have literally never been asked that when I have handed my notice in either.

You are over thinking it

You are definitely overthinking it
Good luck!

You’re overthinking it, they won’t ask you when the interview was and if they did what does it matter anyway now you’re off to a new job! Don’t stress OP Smile Fingers crosses you get the job!

As others have said I've never been asked

Perhaps book a day of decoy annual leave ASAP, so that by the time you get so far as discussing anything with your line manager you can explain it was on your day of A/L.

BashfulClam · 13/01/2021 16:07

I’ve never been asked that, does she normally ask people? I’d just say a time you were offline eg break or after work.

Say I'm handing in my notice and the manager asks anything like "when was the interview?" or if she finds out it was during work's time, how do I respond?

Think about it OP, in your scenario you're handing in your notice Smile what are they going to do, sack you?

You don't owe them an explanation and you can politely decline to discuss it. Or if you feel a pressing need to respond, just say it was at 1 minute past the end of your working day.

They'll realise it's a stupid question and can't expect a sensible answer.

KatherineJaneway · 14/01/2021 05:31

How would she find out it was in work time? Presumably you made up the time or did the work expected anyway so she'll be none the wiser.

If she does ask just say 'after work interview slot' and leave it at that.

4Mongrels · 14/01/2021 05:36

Saturday morning, why do you ask?
I would be very surprised if you were asked, but just lie if you are.

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/01/2021 05:38

When was the interview?

Last week.

And done.

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 14/01/2021 05:43

Massively overthinking it. They won’t ask and in the unlikely event they do - be vague - you don’t have to sneer specifically - just say in last few weeks. For all they know (or ever have to know), it was evening or weekend or early morning or whenever !! Also how do you think people get new jobs anyway ?!

Nacreous · 14/01/2021 05:48

When I was looking for a new job and couldn't take annual leave at short notice I arranged my interviews for before 9 or after 5. People were pretty good about accomodating me. You could just say that if required.
