Any 'Usborne Books' Organisers out there....how do you compete with 'discount' companies?

That's the question really! I love the idea of setting up an Usborne business but know for a fact that the books are available at a much lower price as both myself and my mum are fans of The Book People.
Can an Usborne business really survive with those discounts available elsewhere?

Have posted this thread in 'Employment' as well....

Hi! I've been an Usborne organiser since the beginning of September this year, and have had a fantastic first six weeks! Before I joined, I too was concerned about the massive discounts that the Book People, and to a certain extent Amazon, offer to customers. I've been reassured though, to realise that the Book People seem to only carry a small proportion of Usborne titles at any one time, and that the discounts they offer are as a result of buying huge quantities of this limited range of titles. I've checked today, and the Book People offer 53 Usborne titles - compared with a total offering from Usborne currently of around 1400 titles in their complete catalogue - and they publish 20 or so new titles every month, so you've always got something fresh and new to offer your customers! Also, once you join as an organiser you'll be eligible to promote really great special offers to your customers - for example just one of the current offers is for six Christmas activity titles for £7.99 (combined RRP is £29.94). If you'd like to know more before joining up then don't hesitate to give me a call or email (visit my website for details - www.usborneonline.org/explore) - I'm looking for team members all over the UK so if you want help and support from me then you'd be really welcome in my team! Geographical boundaries are no object - my recruiter is in Yorkshire! Whatever you decide, good luck with everything, I'm sure if you choose Usborne as a business you'll have a great time!

I will be honest, it can be a pain at times

But as anewmein2007 said, The Book People only have a selection of our books

As Organisers, you also get special offers through Usborne , then it is up to you if you offer that discount to your customers

Many Organisers make good money regardless of the likes of the Book People

Thanks for both your replies and feedback....anewmein2007 I may email you, I'm still mulling over whether I think it's for me or not.

Anniebear, what do you call "good money"? What's a realistic target for earning?

Hi MrsHarry

Like any business, the more you put in, the more you get out. The beauty of Usborne is that it is so flexible, and you're your own boss, setting your own targets and goals from day 1. As an organiser you earn 24% commission on everything you sell, and you can increase this to up to 39% plus cash bonuses, with full support from your team leaders and head office to help you in ways to build your business. The way I've approached it is to look at the financial risk, in comparison with other franchises and business start-ups - which I feel is minimal at the current starter kit price of £38. I've found it's been really easy to build up a decent stock of books to take to events - you get opportunities to buy books at heavily discounted prices, or of course buy any title for your stock less 24% commission, so if you're prepared to invest your first couple of commission payments in more stock, you'll soon get some fab books on your shelves!

Oh, and the latest starter kit also helps raise money for BBC Children in Need! Usborne are supporting this appeal in a big way and donating £10 for every new organiser signing up in November to the Children in Need fund! So if you usually support this anyway, you're effectively getting your starter kit for £28!

Sorry if this sounds like a hard sell - promise it's not - I'm just genuinely enthusiastic about the company and its products since taking the plunge and joining. Do get in touch if you want to chat more... regards

sorry, forgot to come back to this thread

Ok, were not talking millions!! But many people do it as their full time job, get promoted and get better commission and bonuses

I know people who sell £1000& of books some months

then they have a team of Organisers who have joined through them so they get commission on what they sell also

get a team of 10 who sell roughly £2000 between them

they would get around £300 commmission themselves and around 5% commission from what their team sell

most prob really confused you !!!! lol

also get lots of free and discounted books yourself

its what you put into it, you get back

Top Organisers have received a 5 figure monthly cheque !!!!! (not me though lol lol)
