Manager making things worse

I work in a hospital. My ward manager doesn't work on the same shifts as me & my colleagues but is always very negative about us. Either verbally to other staff & management or even via email. It's really bringing myself & my colleagues down & even the staff nurse on my shift is feeling low because of it.

How do you deal with someone who is meant to be a supportive role model behaving like this?

what is it that she is complaining about? I've found ward environments to be extremely stressful and sometimes toxic to be honest, there is very little support out there for staff nurses in some areas. Not all areas are like this and there are other managers out there who will support you!

It might not help and you may not be flavour of the month but it is okay to be more vocal and voice your concerns about your workload/why things aren't getting done!

That’s not appropriate. Part of a manager’s job is to keep up morale and support staff. Can you speak to your manager’s manager in confidence?

Thanks for your replies.

Generally it's always how terrible the staff are - in her opinion. How much better the other wards are. Again - her opinion. I have raised this with her manager before but it fell on deaf ears. Morale can drop at times, as with any workplace. I can appreciate it's hard to keep staff positive & motivated, but the support offered isn't there.

I recently quit my job as a HCA on a hospital ward my manager was shocking and 60% of the nurses too! I have never ever worked in a environment like it. I cried daily...in the sluice, we all do it Grin
I was really looking forward to working at the hospital and it's my biggest regret

@crazybutkind That's how I feel. My manager doesn't work directly next to me but the impact her emails & now comments to other members of staff is pretty damaging after a while. It is making the job feel unattractive.
