Yesterday I realised my union Unison are completely useless and are going to be no help at all with the helping me with my issues at work, so I need to go down an other avenue. Can anyone kindly direct me to other organisations that can assist with legal advice for free? A lot of my issues are to do disability discrimination, and I'm sure there are charity's out there to help, I just haven't found them yet. I will be grateful for any direction at all. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately good legal advice doesn't tend to come for free and legal aid for employment issues is virtually nil!

That being said, the ACAS helpline is totally free of charge and quite helpful, or try citizens advice bureau, or an employment solicitor will sometimes see you for an initial appointment/assessment for free (the mythical MN 'free 30 minutes), and some will agree to act on a no win no fee basis if they think you have a strong case....

If you have a specific disability, many charities for Conditions can advise and support.

Why are your union unhelpful, do they feel that you do not have a good case? If your local rep is not helpful, you can contact the regional office and ask to speak to someone more senior.

You should have access to legal advice via your Union subscription. Have you checked if this is available?

What is it about your Union that is "useless"? Could it be that your claim isn't strong, or maybe the facts you've provided aren't complete or clear enough for them to act on your behalf.

Thanks all for your replies.

My reps response to receiving a disciplinary letter for 3 absences which are all disability related " well you have had a lot of time off"! I've had 60 days off over 3 occurrences in 12 months a life limiting disease (don't want to say as it could be outing) ! He was not even interested in hearing anything else!

Are you clear on what outcome you are looking for? And if so would you be comfortable posting that up for best responses.

OP, I'm in Unison. My workplace rep was a bit hit and miss so I went to the regional office and got a full time official who was amazing and got me a great payout, also for disability discrimination. Why don't you contact the relevant full time official? contact details should be on your regional unison website? You could also look at the formal grievance website as I also found that useful.
