I hate my job so much it's making me ill- what are the implications of leaving without another job secured?

As above- it's a senior nhs nursing job. I've only been there for a few months. It's incredibly intense, and very isolated. I have received little to no induction, or training. The post hinges around a specific process, and I was shocked to arrive and realise that zero provision had been made for me to learn from anyone else. The stakes seem to rise daily, and I feel ill when I contemplate going to work.

I have raised my concerns and they have been roundly ignored.

I am actively looking for something else, and have a few irons in the fire- but I honestly don't think I can cope for much longer.

Aside from the financials, what are the professional implications of leaving a post before another has been formally offered?

Thank you 😔

Continuous nhs service. Does that affect the amount of annual leave you get and also maternity leave if that's something you would be needing soon?

Oh wow, I hadn't even thought of that! Thank you 🤢

I think unless you really think it will ruin your health long term, always better to hunt for a job when you have one.

Can you step up the search, or if you have an NHS contract is there NHS bank work as a fill in (don’t know how it works).

What about applying for a lower band with fewer responsibilities and then applying for a higher banding again down the road?

Have you spoken to your union? I'm sure they would have something to say about it.

But late to this thread but what did you decide to do?
I'm in a similar situation and desperate to get out of my senior NHS role.
Agree with the other post re applying for lower banding to take the pressure off.

Wishyouwerehere, I was incredibly fortunate that another post became available- the new post was fewer hours, and less senior- exactly what I needed.
I actually interviewed for that and another post in the same week, and was offered both. I accepted the preferred choice, and am currently working my notice.

I really really hope something comes up for you, it's a horrible way to feel.

Really glad to hear that, it's truly miserable being in that position. I'm going to approach my manager about stepping down into my old role when the hours become available. There is light at the end of the tunnel......

@Wishyouwerehere26 how are you getting on, work-wise?

@opalescent I had a big conversation with my band 8 and put some things in place which have helped slightly. On everyone's advice I'm going to try and stick it out for another while and see. Really can't see myself staying in this for the long term. Just wish I'd stayed a band 6, sooooo much better!!!
I was panicking a few months ago that I was now trapped in this role but have taken a step back and realised if I begin to feel that bad again I will definitely leave. Life is just too short.
How are you feeling re your decision?
