I need to find part time work, possibly working from home or self employed?

I’m in a complicated situation, I’m a carer to 2 sn children/teens, I have no child care and am a single parent. I have been working a couple shifts a week in a care roll but now one of my shifts has been taken off me so I’m only working one day a week. Finding a job to fit around the dc is particularly hard unless the job is in a school as I have no child care in the holidays and no holiday club will take my dd who is severely autistic. I want to work because during the week when dc’s are at school it’s pretty lonely so it’s not necessarily about needing the money, more keeping me sane.

I want to stop working in care (as I spend my life caring for my dc, I’m all cared out 🤣) but I have no qualifications to work in other areas other than catering which is dead right now and unsociable hours. I love working with my hands, being outdoors or doing art/craft but those jobs just don’t seem to exist. I’m finding it hard to find any part time work advertised online and most work is care work which is long hours for minimum wage. Is there anything I can do from home to earn around £130 pw that doesn’t involve a pyramid scheme?

It's not the most exciting job in the world but a job like this as a customer service advisor might suit? You can work from home with flexible hours, and this particular job pays £9-10 per hour, and asks for 20-25 hours working a week, so upwards of £180 per week. I realise it doesn't use what you enjoy (eg, being outside, although I suppose you could set your working space outside in the summer if you had good enough reception/internet), so not 100% ideal x

Have you checked out the £10 a day thread on here? It has links to loads of survey sites and website testing etc. I've only done a few, but have managed to make about £40 a week, so it might be something to consider as a stop-gap if nothing else? Will try to find a link to it.

I have tried a few of these but didn’t make enough money on them. Have also tried match betting but I’m not organised enough, though I’m good at maths.

Have you tried volunteering at your local school if your not able to find a job in a school? Most schools will hire 121s and lunchtime supervisors from the people they know that already help at the school.

It’s not really something I want to do (working with children), only school job I could really do is kitchen work but the schools here don’t have school kitchens.

I love how you say you need to find work, but then all the suggestions you don't want to do

Interesting

What about working for yourself ?
Set your own hours and days then

You said you like being outside and working with your hands - what about - setting yourself up as a gardener ? Be honest if you are going to start as just doing non-skilled stuff like lawn mowing.

Or what about cleaning ? Always a market for decent cleaners and, again, you can arrange your slots whilst the dc are at school.

If you enjoy being outside, I agree that you could do basic garden maintenance for about £15ph for 10 hours a week. Or dog walking - £5 per dog ph - walk three dogs at once and do it twice a day - that's £150 a week.

I know a woman who is good at craft and decorates things for a woman who sells on Etsy. She's paid about £10ph and does it from home PT.

I would happily do gardening. I do have a small amount of savings to maybe start a small business, happy to walk dogs too (prefer dogs than people).

Have a think about what skills you have that you could monetise. Dog walking or pet care is a good one. I know a guy who looks in on peoples indoor cats and smaller pets when they’re away for a night or two - feeds them, plays with them etc. Not a lot of hours and can be done flexibly. Maybe worth a shot.
