When did you know what you wanted to do? Did you do what you decided to do as a child/young adult?

Just been thinking alot about careers recently, my whole life (well, from about 7) I wanted to work with horses in some capacity and until I had a riding accident at 16 it stayed the same. Now I am out of that 'world' I am scared because for the first time in my life I don't know what to do. I have about 4 diffrent careers in mind, but they are all so different I can't do my A-levels because they all need different ones, or a college course. One day I still want to work with horses and want to go back to agricultural college, the next I am passionate about becoming a teacher, then I am back to wanting to be an accountant and then I think I may want to work at a nursery. Did you always know what you wanted to do? If so, are you happy now doing it? How did you decide if you didn't 'know' for ages what you wanted to do? How old were you when you decided? I am in a total muddle!

I am 26, never knew what I wanted to do but started working in an office and had some ambition to want to get to be the manager - once I got there I realised I hated it and left. I ran my own pub but this was a disaster and now I am pregnant and jobless. Now I am thinking that I might go back to office work as the grass was not greener.
Write a list of pros and cons, speak to people who do the jobs and what they do and don't like about it. My brother is an accountant - always wanted to be one but he says it is so dull and has very little job satisfaction!
All the jobs you list are very different in different environments, if you were in an office wouldn't you miss being outside, are you target driven . What about money cause they all pay quite different?

Do you know anyone who works in the industries you mention? You might be able to shadow them for a day or so to get an idea of what it actually involves working in these sorts of places. Accountancy probably pays the best out of all these careers but there's a lot of studying to be done. The good thing is that you don't need a degree for that whereas for teaching you certainly will at some point.

I wanted to be a teacher for ages and ages, from childhood. I did go into it straight from univeristy. I stayed teaching for 9 years, before leaving for many reasons. I know work in education as an IAG advisor in a prison.

I don't really know anyone in these jobs, but I have been thinking more and I might go and finish my Equine studies courses because it's something I 100% enjoy, and if I want to teach after that I will just go on and train to do that. I will be so old compared to everyone else though!

I hated my first career. I changed career four years ago and do one of the jobs I really wanted as a child....and I do love it. It isn't perfect but I appreciate it and probably much more so after the first career.

I wanted to be a lady with breasts so that I could wear a long string of beads and they would dangle over my bosom.

Life plans never my forte.

Don't take the safe/easy option though cause you don't want to regret not doing something.
