I am currently top of my band 6 have handed my notice in for a new job different health board I assumed as with previous changes I would remain at the same grade. Contact came in today bottom band 6 pay cut of 8 thousand pounds a year as well as pension issues. I’m due to start on Wednesday
Any advice please

Surely that's a mistake? Can you phone the HR department tomorrow?

NerrSnerr · 13/12/2020 20:31

You need to speak to them about it. When I have moved jobs in different trusts I have always had to take in my payslip so they can see where in the band you are. Did you discuss it when they offered the job?

It's probably just an oversight and just needs sorting.

YesMeLady · 13/12/2020 20:32

I had this. What does the advert say. I would call h.r

Ffsnosexallowed · 13/12/2020 20:33

Contact them ans let them know - they should be taking previous nhs service into account when placing you on banding

Schmoozer · 13/12/2020 20:33

Yep I’d assume error
Make
Sure HR know ASAP

Have a look at the NHS employers Agenda for Change)handbook (available online). From memory you retain your rights re pay, increased annual leave etc as long as no more than a fairly short break.
Then write to HR of the new trust and quote the relevant paragraph and section and/or contact your union

Here it is

I did email hr and the never got back to me
I wrongly assumed it was ok
Have been asked to take my payslip with me on Wednesday
Contact electronic have declined it with the reason to discuss pay. It would be a Sunday!!
Thanks will look at agenda for change

The new recruitment and hr team sound pretty poor. They must send template contracts out stating bottom of the band.
If you are moving band 6 to band 6 in the NHS you will retain your same pay.
You’ve been asked to take your payslip so that should resolve the matter.

Madwomanuptheroad29 · 13/12/2020 21:22

AFC handbook section 12 deals with reckonable service in relation to AL, maternity etc.
Nothing explicit in it re pay, however your trust will have a policy re this and to my knowledge it is in the local policies and procedures across all trusts.

user2156 · 13/12/2020 22:05

Thanks everyone
Will definitely be making some calls tomorrow and some good advice which has helped
Will update tomorrow

I got really badly burned like this. I didn't realise at first which was my own fault, but due to a change of hours I just didn't notice the pay drop. They refused to put me onto the correct increment and I ended up leaving.

Hope you get sorted today!! If you have no luck with HR contact your line manager as they may be able to request.

Motnight · 14/12/2020 12:54

I had similar, went from the top of band 7 to the bottom of band 8 as a result of promotion and had a pay decrease as a result! It just took an email from me to HR pointing this out and they amended it the same day. This was just over 2 years ago, I know that AFC has changed since then.

madcatladyforever · 14/12/2020 12:57

You need to bring this up with your manager and wages dept. They are usually very generous.
I left my last trust at top of grade 6 for a grade 5 position as that's all there was on offer and I had to move house to that area for various reasons.
I applied for the next grade 6 job going 6 months later which I got and I asked to be given the top of that grade like I was before and they gave it to me.
Its likely an error on their part. If you have been out of the NHS for less than a year you should be given your previous grading and other benefits like holiday entitlement.

madcatladyforever · 14/12/2020 12:58

P.S all this happened this year so recent.

Buttercupcup · 14/12/2020 13:02

Last year I moved NHS trust band 7 to band 7 job (second increment from the top) contract initially came through as bottom band 7 I wasn’t getting anywhere with HR. I emailed and telephoned my new manager and they copied in HR sent my most recent payslip and they corrected it on ESR so I was on the same pay point. Do it by email if you can they you have a paper trail and speak to your new line manager if not getting anywhere with HR or ask to speak to the HR manager.

I've just left a band 7 job to go to top band 6 . Took a few phonecalls to sort that out. My previous trust only sent my most recent band 6 experience of 5 years so they were going to down grade me to that point. They have agreed to pay me based on all my band 6 experience. Hence top band 6. They werent going to take into account my 2 years at band 7 experience at all. Contact your union rep if they get sticky about it. Ridiculous that they wont confirm someones wage before they take up a post.
