Partner’s work

My partner has worked for a company for 25 years. He caught COVID 6 weeks ago as did I. I was able to return to work as my energy levels have mostly returned. However my partner still suffers with dips in energy, muscle ache and occasionally brain fog. This is apparently long COVID and though he did not end up in hospital it has effected him. He has been on the sick, attempted twice to return to work due to the pressure he felt by management. He is improving but is still not quite ready to return as he is still becoming fatigued and muscle ache is there but not as bad. Work have sent a letter today and rang to confirm an appointment Monday morning to attend a meeting to discuss his sickness, should he be concerned? He doesn’t know whether to force himself back, I feel that his doctor has told him that he needs to give himself time to heal and return in a couple of weeks so as not to risk going back too early again.

Anyone know if we should be concerned for his job?

I should add he has improved in health but is still not 100% and works in a very physical job.

But it’s not his personal decision whether to return to work or not - it’s his Dr’s. If he is signed off sick by his Dr, his work must respect that. If his Dr has signed him as healthy to return to work, he should respect that and return.

He is Signed off by a doctor but has asked that the sick notes are weekly so he can return as soon as he is well. Work have asked for this meeting when a sick note has been submitted.

Has his doctors signed him off? If so, work could do one as far as I’d be concerned

It's usual tonahve a meeting for any long term sickness absence, to discuss any support required to get back to work and investigate any possible contributory factors.

Yes his doctor has him signed off , offered longer sick notes but my partner is requesting them a week at the time so he can return as soon as he is well

Thank you @HallFloor, so it’s not something to be concerned about?

He can get a sick note cancelled easily. Work might prefer to know not to expect him for a month rather than be on constant “will he be back next week” unknown.

That is a good point, thank you Mines a pint of tea
