Is this a red flag - interview?

Had final interview for very lengthy process, multiple tasks and rounds and met many of those I would be working with.

The recruiter I am dealing with highlighted initially that the compensation package would be x with a bonus of 0.5-0.75x. I loved the people and loved the role, so kept plugging away, this was the cherry on top.

Got offered the job and was told by new employers that the salary was in fact 90% of x with no mention of bonus. I am really disappointed. I was very excited by the role and despite being in multiple other processes, and turning down other roles because of it, feel a bit confused that this has changed.

Probably reading into it a bit too deeply but feel a bit insulted too? Should I have been less enthusiastic/not shown my excitement for the role and played it a bit cooler? Obviously there has been a miscommunication somewhere but I felt like I was behaving honestly and one of the key reasons I wanted to move from a big corp to a smaller business was in the hope that I would be treated more honestly/fairly and less like a number. Sorry if this doesn't make much sense!

I had always said to this co that if I was chosen for the role, it would be my first choice but now am faced with the prospect of pulling out of various processes I am in, and this falling through too if they are unable/unwilling to offer me what was originally promised by the recruiter...

Job offers tend to be a negotiation, in my experience. Have you actually tried going back to them and saying that you're very keen on the role, but what you're looking for is x and what happened to the bonus that was mentioned?!

Also, never close off your other options when you can't guarantee how your favoured one is going to play out.

Thanks rottie!

Good point, should I pick this up with the recruiter rather than the co, given that the miscomm appears to be with recruiter and what they initially said? Recruiter said they "didnt know" why the base was different and that the bonus was discretionary but almost always paid - I just dont feel comfortable agreeing to anything until I have it in writing though.

Secondly, good point re the other processes however they are all looking to progress this week and I just don't have enough time with my day job! I don't know how to manage this aspect...

If the recruiter is the one who relayed the offer to you, then yes I'd tell them it isn't something you can accept. There's no point accepting a new job and feeling resentful right from the start that you're working for less than you expected to be. In relation to the bonus, most are discretionary but should still be outlined as part of your written offer, with a caveat added in relation to the bonus not being guaranteed. If it isn't mentioned whatsoever, I'd be wanting to know why...

Go back to the recruiter and start negotiating. Do you think they misrepresented the company or that the company moved the goal posts?

Also, what do you have in writing?
