It looks like they are following state school term dates, are they connected to a school or supposedly open all year round?

What a nightmare for working parents

lalaa · 23/10/2004 14:19

that's outrageous! talk to the other mums and collectively complain!

jampot · 23/10/2004 14:19

agree its a PITA when nurseries do this and really inconvenient for working parents but when your child goes to school it will be a lot harder to juggle the school terms and annual leave - hope your boss lets you have unpaid leave

lenaw · 23/10/2004 14:19

they are neighbourhood nursery and yes they are connected to a school but i cannot see why is this affecting my 13 m.o.?

That's a long break. What are there reasons?

Frizbe · 23/10/2004 19:49

Don't worry you should be able to get unpaid leave - parental leave, 13 weeks upto age of 5 by law now! you just need to request it in writing asap, as you need to give your co a reasonable advanced notice, I can't remember exactly what it is tho....try the DTI website for details.

lenaw · 24/10/2004 19:43

thanks for help - will try parental leave if nothing else works
nursery didn't give me any reasons yet will speak to them tomorrow
my mum lives about 3000 miles away! and my mum-in-law is 83!

You may find a childminder who can cover the dates
Good luck

childmindersam · 24/10/2004 22:21

where are you?

lenaw · 26/10/2004 19:07

Oh dear
spoke to my boss today - she doesn't know about parental leave an it seems she doesn't want to know
hope to get some unpaid leave
to make matters worse it looks like we are going to move house so i will need even more time off
i'm in south shields - good childminders are rare as rockin' horse's poo
most of them just strap babies in the pram in front of the telly with a bottle of sunny d...:9((

give this to your boss

JulieF · 26/10/2004 22:46

Put your request for parental leave in writing then she has to consider it.

However I am afraid that although an employer can not refuse your request to take parental leave they can defer when you take it for up to 6 months to fit in with their busy/quiet times.
