2 jobs & tax

So my daughter works part time in a restaurant and is furloughed again earning £100 a week. She’s just got a part time seasonal job in Tesco working 2 shifts a week so that’s about another £100 a week. I’m just wondering if anyone can advice how much she will be taxed on her earnings?

Tesco will probably tax her the full 20% but she can a rebate at the end of the tax year.

She still won't be above the tax threshold will she? I think it's like 11.5-12k to have to pay tax

Personal allowance (the amount you can earn tax free) is currently £12,500 so it depends how much she has earned year to date so far, but as she is still employed by her original employer, she will tick the box on her new starter form/p46 to say that she has another job.
They might put her on basic rate tax to begin with, but now with RTI, HMRC seem to generally be more on the ball with adjusting tax codes to take this into account.

Initially 20% on the second job. Then once HMRC are receiving data, she can see this on www.gov.uk/personal-tax-account then HMRC should automatically issue tax codes to both employers. If that does not happen after a couple of months, then she can prompt HMRC to do so by having a chat with an adviser or by using the Wrong Tax Code form.

She's under the threshold at £800 a week.

Highly likely her new job will deduct basic rate tax. She can wait until after the year end for HMRC to calculate and repay. Or, she can phone HMRC herself, to tell them of her two jobs and ask them to split her tax free personal allowance between them, meaning no more tax deducted from either. Personally, I always think that being proactive and contacting HMRC to tell them what's going on is far better than waiting for them to try to work it out, perhaps many months later.
