Barista Training

Hi,

It's a bit of a crazy Time to perhaps be thinking of training to be a Barista but I'm quite determined as my friend intends to open up a coffee shop next year !
I have no experience at all & wonder what's the best way to gain experience, do a Barista course or look for work in a coffee shop?
Or do coffee shops not train staff, like Nero or Starbucks?
Any advise would be great

I would look for work in a local place tbh. I did a lot of waitressing in my younger days :) Most barista training is just a quick tour of the machine, make sure you understand what all the drinks are, practice making a couple. A bit like learning to drive the way to get good at anything is to do it lots.

I do think tea is making a comeback (loose leaf) it'd be worth doing a tasting course if your friend was inclined to do tea and coffee.

Funnily enough I prefer tea than coffee!!

So do I . I think a lot of people drink coffee when out because it's hard to justify spending 3 quid on a teabag and some not too hot water. However I've noticed more places are doing loose leaf tea in pots which feels like a real treat especially when supplemented by cake! Still drink takeaway coffee though as can't be bothered waiting the 3-4 minutes it takes to properly brew the tea.

Coffee machines are not difficult to use. It's a shot of coffee then you add the milk. You just need to know the difference between the drinks to know the amount of milk/froth.
