Being given unrealistic targets...

My boss who is the CEO of the charity I worked for has just decided on a 5 time increase of the amount of money I am supposed to bring in as a fundraising manager.

Without any discussion, this is supposed to be my target for 2021. The CEO has also made the grandiose statement that Covid won't be an issue next year for voluntary organisations (although anyone with any sense would grasp that the virus will continue to affect the economy until at least the Spring) and fundraising...

I am the only person working on fundraising and I only am employed part-time.

To be honest I have only been in this job for less than a year and I have had some serious doubt the organisation and its leadership so I have started to look for a new role already.

But in the meantime does anyone have any suggestions on how to react to this and challenge unreasonable expectations?

The charity is not in financial trouble and I have done well in term in term of bringing in a decent amount of funding, but this target is simply ridiculous.

Put your concerns in writing to him outlining your argument and giving a forecast for what you think to be reasonable but stretching targets given the current climate.
You will have to keep a detailed record of your activities for the rest of the year though to prove you have done your best to meet the unrealistic targets set
