Pregnant and being made redundant.. help?

Hi all,

Thanks to anyone who takes time to read this...

I've been employed for 4y 7m, 3y full time and the rest part time due to having a baby between. I'm currently 23 weeks pregnant and have received the news that my role may become redundant (15h a week). I have redundancy consultation meetings where I can suggest alternatives to redundancy, does anyone know if I take early maternity leave (can be as soon as 20/12/20) if it'll cost the company money? I've been on furlough since March I should add. I'm just trying to think of suggestions to saving my job, I understand how many people are in difficult situations at the moment. If my role is unfortunately made redundant, will I still qualify for some sort of maternity pay?

Thanks so much to anyone who has any advice/ experience.

Sorry to hear about your threat of redundancy it is not what you need when pregnant. I was made redundant twice when pregnant with my first two children. If you are still in employment at 25 weeks pregnant they have to pay you statutory maternity pay and I think it can start 11 weeks before due date. I kicked up a fuss the second time and they paid me the full enhanced maternity pay that I would have received it I had still worked there.

If you're still there and have completed 25 weeks of pregnancy then you will still qualify for statutory maternity pay. Your maternity pay should be based on normal pay, not furlough pay.

Are there others also getting picked for redundancy?

Thank you so much both. I didn't know that about the 25week cut off. That's only a week and few days out so I'll still qualify even though my job is threatened? @dementedpixie yes, 2 other people as far as I'm aware, one being part of the company for a long time!

Yes, once you qualify for maternity pay then you would get it even if you leave the job

That's such a relief @dementedpixie thank you x

And even if you hadn't qualified for SMP you could claim Maternity Allowance instead.
