Leaving job soon after starting?

I got made redundant from my job a couple of months ago and I was lucky to find another job which I started at the beginning of October

I am absolutely miserable - the company is not a right fit for me, I feel out of my depth and completely stupid as the work is not what I expected/very far removed from anything I've ever done before. From the minute I log off on Friday I am anxious about returning on Monday, I'm dreading the office reopening and the only thing keeping me going is being able to wfh at the moment.

Basically, I hate it and want to leave! I am looking for something else.

I don't want to have to ask them for a reference - I just want to be able to leave quietly. And I don't want to put them on my CV as I'm worried it will look bad to a prospective employer that I have left somewhere so quickly, I would rather it appear as if I have been job hunting for a few months because of the pandemic.

I am just concerned because when they get my P45 it will obviously have the details of my current employer on there.

Does anyone have any advice on what they have done in this situation?

Also just to add - I know how lucky I am have found a job and accept it will be hard to find something else but I truly know this is not the right place for me.

I’ve left a new job after a month and never mentioned it again. And another job after two months. P45s are dealt with by Payroll in bigger companies, not the recruiter. Otherwise, just do a new starter tax form instead.

The exception would be for security clearance vetting for jobs in government where you do have to list all employers for either 5 or 10 years. From my experience, those type of jobs check employment dates with HRMC rather than asking for references.

The same when I worked in banking, they wanted five years of references (actually just confirmation of dates) and any gaps over three months they wanted explained with what you were doing.

The job I left isn’t on my CV or job application forms but I put it on my security clearance form. It was never mentioned. The job I left after two months was years ago so I don’t have to mention it.

Oh I did leave a job after half a day once - never mentioned again as I didn’t get paid so no “proof” or tax record that I ever worked there!

Thank you so much for your reply - this has made me feel so much better!

Now I just need to actually find a new job...

I started a job last year and hated it. I left within 6 months and said it was a fixed term contract.

I was in a similar situation and took a job offered because the role I really wanted hadn’t got back to me and I needed a job post-redundancy, the other job then offered me an interview and I ended up leaving after 2 weeks. I just don’t put it on my CV as it’s pointless and used my original company for a reference.
