Council Tax

I would like some advise please :)

I have recently started part time work after coming back from maternity leave.

I have received my new council tax bill and they are expecting the full price when my whole salary is still minimum monthly.

Does this sound about right I do get single persons discount but the council tax still comes upto £80 a month unfortunately which is a lot.

It could be right. Councils set their own discount rates these days. I have to pay £77 per month as an unemployed single parent .

Why would your council tax change depending upon income? Are you claiming all the benefits you may be entitled to?

They change it depending on your income which I completely understand but I think is what the person above said they decide on the prices I cant do anything about it unfortunately:(

Have you applied for a council tax reduction op?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/10/2020 18:52

Isn’t single person discount a set percentage across all areas?

Hwory · 30/10/2020 18:53

Have you requested your billing installments to go to march?

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 30/10/2020 18:54

Single adult discount is 25%.
There's also an income based reduction but the rate for that is set by councils and you have to apply for it separately to everything else.

MargotMoon · 30/10/2020 18:57

You need to apply for council tax reduction as it is means-tested. It's not automatically calculated, so you need to keep them updated with changes to your income. Check your local authority website for how to apply
