Hi katie0 - not sure exactly where you are in Roath but my dd went to David Lloyd nursey on Newport Rd from 18mths until school age and she loved it. The staff are all very caring and as the kids get older they really set them up well for school. Dd was learning Welsh and all sorts by the time she left. If you want any further info please feel free to CAT me.

KatieO · 20/10/2004 14:04

thx bonym, david lloyds not too far from me. Might call them to see if i cld have a look round. what are the fees like?

ps marialuisa, tries to CAT you re playbox but you have requested no emails from mumsnet. Could you alter your profile?

would you say if you had a "feeling" the standard of care at a nursery wasnt up to scratch that you should go with your instincts and change, or whether it's just guilt thats making you hypersensitive??

Katie-I'll CAT you.

I'd say go with your gut on nurseries even if it seems completely irrational.

bonym · 20/10/2004 15:02

Oh, not sure if I can rememer the fees -dd has been in school for 2 years now. I think though it was about £25 per day? Give them a ring - Julie was the person in charge - not sure if she is still there.

bonym · 20/10/2004 15:04

BTW - I'd agree with marialuisa - gut instinct is nearly always right. Even if it isn't - the fact that you are not 100% happy should be enough to decide you. I always felt guilty leaving dd in nursery but was always happy that she was being looked after properly. I think the fact that I used to have to cajole her to come home most days was indication enough that she was happy there!

KatieO · 20/10/2004 15:07

thanks guys, I was just going to leave it and hope the feeling went away. Am going to contact a few different nurseries now and look into moving him. Thanks for all advice!

Katieo-you've also requested no emails.

Anyway-i'll blab on this thread and if it's inappropriate MN can pull it.

My goddaughter was at the nursery you mention for about 6 weeks (started when she was 6m). anyway, her mum found out they were lying about how much milk she'd had, leaving her in filthy nappies and there were big issues about older toddlers being with little babies without proper supervision (way beyond the norm number of incidents with little babies being bitten/pinched etc.)

Goddaughter left 6 months ago so things may have improved.

A nursery not far from there (overlooks the park, initials N.N.) also pretty dire.

there is one in cardiff gate in the business park. it opened last year. cant remember what its called but my friends just put her little boy there.

thanks mergle. Its a minefield isnt it? I went to look at david lloyds and sandringham this week, and i thought the rooms were really small in David LLoyds to be cooped up in all day? I was quite impressed with sandringham and didnt notice the staff were young and am going to have a second look tomorrow so I'll be more aware this time. i like the fact there is a webcam there, it just gives you a bit of peace of mind. Think it should be a legal requirement actually. Thanks for the tip re liliput, i'll defo give them a call and check it out.

I found a nursery on the web up in the Heath area a while back that puported to be all wooden toys and cloth nappies sort of thing - organic food too I think. No idea what the name is tho.

If you are looking further afield DS goes to a small house-based nursery in Llantrisant and I think it is great.

milge · 05/11/2004 17:18

interesting thread, came on here to look for advice and found this topical one! i've just pulled my two out of a nursery in Llandaff north, after 6 weeks. I'd thought it looked fab, but since mine started, I have always had a gut feeling that something was not right, but the kids seemed to have a good time so left it.Dh told me that i was being irrational, but always felt sick leaving them. They are 2 now and have been in daycare since 9 weeks. DS was hospitalised yesterday after his 4th accident there in 4 weeks, and it was the last straw for me. Was considering ACorns on Park Grove, as it is behind dh's work, but now won;t. Anyone got any recommendations for nurseries in Penarth? many thanks
