Feeling nervous after interview as a HCA

Hi

I’ve had an interview today as a health care assistant for a GP and it would involve working across 2 different sites as well as visiting people in the local community.

I’m wanting to hear advice from HCAs who are in this job role or similar?

I’m not sure how I feel about the possibility of working within the community as it’s not what I’m used to (currently hospital based)
It’s also a full time post and I currently work 23 hours working night shifts. The potential change has left me feeling overwhelmed with weather it’s something I would like to do.

Was this not in the job description. We have a health care assistant. She does some clinics but also goes out and does various bloods and blood pressures on our housebound patients. Ours loves the variety.

No it wasn’t in the job description. But I had a feeling about I would have to work across 2 sites possibly. The hours were not stated either.

What was odd was that I am currently a HCA and the lady mentioned that I could do an apprenticeship because she would need to train me and it would cost them money Confused

Yes I’m sure it’s a good opportunity and it just seems a lot as I’ve been working night shifts for the a good few years now.

I don't think the community stuff is too overwhelming as long as you are given time. Our HCA tells us how many people she can see in two hours so we book her that many. She also does clinics in the surgery.
It's quite intense but as long as you are given the time to do the jobs properly it should be fine.
I'm interested in your apprenticeship comment and training...what training do you think you would need.
Ours does BP bloods flu jags and I think she can do some basic dressings. Also height and weight. If you can do that I wouldn't have thought you needed much training to start with if they want you to have any more training they could pay you properly and send you in a training course.

The company suggested doing an apprenticeship to me Shock I know there’s a couple of things I need to learn like bloods and doing dressings. I have 8 years hospital experience as a HCA so to do an apprenticeship feels like a step back and I run it by the nurses that I work with currently. Their advise was that I should be super numeri.

Anyway they want someone to start on the 2nd November. This wouldn’t be possible as I would have to give 4 weeks notice. I had my interview on Monday this week and I haven’t heard anything.
