Manager Making Bully worse

Justpassingtime1 · 12/10/2020 07:34

Manager and I had our first supervision together.
She is new . Very nice.
I did mention an issue I was having with a colleague to which she
reacted in an understanding way.
However, she has now told the unpleasant colleague that I reported it,
This has made it worse.
I have quite a lot of work to do and I am now unable to cope with
a bloody idiot who has now decided to follow me around.

What is your question?

Your post does not provide enough context for any helpful suggestions.

Then tell the manager what has happened as a result of reporting it and put in a formal complaint.

Yes. The only way so far has been to avoid this person.
They are a bit thick which is the main cause and also bored.
The manager should have not told the person without dealing with
properly . A bit stupid too I think

She should not have done this. I train managers how to handle bullying and harassment cases and she really should have taken advice from HR before doing anything.

I would suggest you speak to her again and explain what has happened.

Something now needs to be done- this won't go away.

Best practice ( if you can bear it) is that you speak to your bully and explain the impact of his actions on you. Or this is done by the you and the manager jointly.

If not, then the manager should start to investigate your complaint more formally. She should ask HR for help. She should have a 1:1 with him and with other members of the team to find out what has been happening and why.

The aim initially is to make the behaviour stop. If it doesn't stop after the person has been told of the impact they are having then they need to start going down the disciplinary route

You need to keep a written log of any incidents.

Bullying is a breach of contract in the employers part and they should not be ignoring it!
