Pre recorded interview

Has anyone had any experience with a pre recorded job interview? I have one coming up and no idea what to expect. Trying to prepare best I can but I am terrible at interviews at the best of times. Maybe not having someone sitting in front me will work in my favour. Just curious what they are like if anyone has had do one?

I've never heard of such a thing and would be curious to see how it works.

I'm guessing your interview will be recorded for review, in which case, try to look into the camera when giving answers. It will give the feel of eye contact being made with viewer and will able you to connect with them much better given the unusual circumstances.

Thanks, that's a good idea to remember to look at the camera. Dont know what to expect but I suppose this will become the norm for now due to current circumstances.

Pre-recorded interviews tend to be reserved for applicants the company aren’t 100% sure of - ie those who might not fit the exact requirements or who don’t come recommended by a recruiter / another colleague. Before committing to it have a re-read of the job description and your CV to make sure everything fits, look up other staff on LinkedIn to see how well you would fit in with your qualifications and then decide.

Make some notes of your strengths and experience. Have your application by you. Look at the camera. Keep your hands away from your face and hair. Position the camera so it's slightly looking down at you, not up your nose giving you a double chin. Make sure the camera shows your face and shoulders close up, not boobs and tummy. Choose a neutral background and indirect light.

Be ready to repeat a question to give yourself thinking time before you reply. Listen out for the two-part or even three-part questions and be sure to answer all the parts - they're a common test to see if you can hold several things in your mind at once. Have some questions ready to ask them. When they ask what your weakness is, don't say being a perfectionist - everyone says that!

Good luck!

I believe all candidates invited for interview are doing it this way due to covid. Thanks for taking the time to reply and give me advice I appreciate it 😊

Rubbish, they're the norm for many graduate schemes and mass recruitment drives.

Do you know the format of the interview Kitkit? Is it based around competencies and/ or qualities? The Civil Service Fast Stream interview takes this format, there's lots of advice around that if you Google it.

Yep Ive done one recently, i think a lot are being done pre recorded now.

Honestly, I found it quite tricky, it put me off seeing myself on the screen and I found it hard not having that conversation with the interviewer.
Anyway, I had the chance to fix my camera and do a practice question first. I had to press record when i was ready to and stop when id finished answering so make sure your phone /lap top is placed somewhere secure!.

I was read the competency question and given 30 seconds to think of my answer before i was timed out, i was asked a few questions then more generic what do you think the job entails, what can i bring to the role etc.

I would just prepare yourself, think about your room, will it be quiet and prepare some answers! Good luck

Its strengths and behaviours. I think I'm happy now with what might be asked and what to say but once I am in an interview I usually crash and burn regardless of how prepared I think I am but hopefully not having someone sitting in front of me will work in my favour. The fact its pre recorded was a bit off putting initially but then again everyone else will be in the same situation.
