Strength based questions for Civil Service

Hi All,

I have an interview soon as an AO for the home office, part of the framework includes strength based questions which will be delivered on the interview.

I am unsure what to expect? Should I answer using the the star method?
What type of questions will I come across?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

What’s the star method?

Look up Clifton Strengths assessment? Dh has used that.

Hi there, the Civil Service introduced success profiles at interview in 2018. Google 'strength based interview questions' and 'civil service' and loads of gov.uk published stuff comes up. Strength based questions are designed to draw out from you what you think you're good at and why.

Thanks Frisky I will do more research.

Are there any common questions or can I be struck with any?

You can’t really apply star to strength based questions, and they’re supposed to be a bit off the cuff - no prep really needed. You generally talk for about a minute for each. Ones I’ve seen recently are for higher (management) grades, but include stuff like, ‘what difference can a line manager make?’, ‘tell me about your approach to diversity and inclusion’, ‘what’s a good day for you?’ and ‘how important is evidence?’. Don’t be scared by these! If the post is a good fit the strength questions should be ok for you. I actually quite enjoy doing them now.
If you google the civil service strengths dictionary, that maps them against behaviours so you can see what they might be looking for for the vacancy.
Good luck!
