Civil service temp contract

Hallo,

I've been offered an SEO role on a two year contract. Can anyone give a steer as to how likely it is that I would be able to stay on in another role when the time is up? I'm not sure if it is standard procedure to offer two years in the first instance or not. It was a group recruitment exercise.

And on a temp contract am I able to apply for other roles internally towards the end of my contract?

Not sure how likely it is you'll be able to stay in the role but you should have access to the internal vacancies even on a fixed-term agreement I would think.

Just bumping this up for any more insight. I'm getting nervous about looking for another job in two years time

If you do a good job the department will want to keep you, and there are always lots of SEO roles about, but worth checking whether you will be able to apply as an internal candidate, just to be sure.

Like Irene says, if you’re good they’ll work to keep you. In my dept a lot of people (incl me) were initially brought in on 2yr contracts for EU exit work. Depending on your dept / area there’s a high degree of movement (it even has a name in the CS - ‘churn’) - I’ve had three roles in 2.5 years and two promotions, so worth getting a foot in the door.

It does depend on the department- some are trickier than others, but you have access to all the internal jobs too.
