Hi everyone! Smile
Please tell me who you can work for a girl of 26 years old with little knowledge of English. I've heard about cleaning houses and working in a warehouse. what else can you advise? I moved recently, I will be very grateful for the information! Blush

Farm work? Field picking and that sort of thing. Amazon warehouses? It depends on where you are living and what’s available. Are there any other people of your nationality/language living where you live who might be able to help you?

slipperywhensparticus · 25/09/2020 15:10

do you have the right to work in the UK? Are you actually UK based?

I heard about farms. Thanks) I would like to know if there is more... My husband has been living here for 15 years. My native language is Russian.

I know a Russian lady who works for a Russian family in London as a nanny.

If you’re well-educated, you could offer Russian conversations to people studying the language.

In shops and restaurants, you often don’t need much English either.

StitchInTimeSavesNine · 25/09/2020 15:49

I'd apply for what you think you might want to do. There are plenty of jobs where you don't have to speak brilliant English. Have you got any skills or qualifications?

crosstalk · 25/09/2020 21:21

As fast as you can do online courses in English. Youtube as well.

Network with other Russian speakers who may give you good advice.

If you're living in London then farm work won't be possible it's very hard and you mostly have to live on site. Many of which are miserable.

Covid is your enemy with most casual jobs in waitressing cooking etc being shut down. If you can bear it cleaning and getting into a firm specialising in super cleaning might be something.

YOu don't say what qualifications you have.

Smallsteps88 · 25/09/2020 21:24

Seek out fellow Russians or other non English speakers in your area and find out where they all work/find work. If your husband has been here 15 years he will have friends who will know of jobs/employers. Get yourself a network.

Your written English seems ok. You could work in a hospital in various jobs - cleaner, kitchen porter, porter, healthcare assistant. Hotel work would usually be an option, but probably not at the minute.

There is a Mumsnet jobs section, I don't know if it's any good. https://jobs.mumsnet.com

Then there is Indeed https://www.indeed.co.uk

You could try Duolingo for your English https://www.duolingo.com

Offer conversational Russian and correcting written Russian online. Maybe use something like the website Patreon?

One of my kids is learning a language, and these are what she wants.

TheHobbitMum · 26/09/2020 15:18

Look into supermarkets, we have lots of folk working for us who speak English as a second language. Good luck finding something

HaggieMaggie · 26/09/2020 18:01

Speaking English as a second language is different to little knowledge of English. In the current climate I would rule out anything customer or patient facing.

I would say jobs where you don’t need to speak to people and not what you’re used to unfortunately. Hospitality perhaps such as house keeping, cleaning, laundry etc.

I’m trying to think what I could do if I arrived in Russia and needed work and it wouldn’t be in a supermarket, a HCA or in marketing I’m afraid.

Have a look at Russian companies with London offices e.g. Gazprom.

I will agree. It will be difficult to help people if I speak poorly or do not understand 100% what they want from me. but on the other hand it is the best practice.
