Furloughed - again!

I should of gone back to work in April after 9 months maternity, but was furloughed until mid august. I've just been told that I'm being furloughed again next week until the end of October.

I smell a rat 🤔 i think redundancy will be heading my way soon, and if it is, so be it. I realise that times are hard, but my worry is finding another job. I've got 20+ years of admin experience, along with customer service and HR experience and qualifications, but in these times I doubt anyone will be recruiting for a while.

At a very tight push, we could afford for me not to work, but I like to pay my way and get the odd takeaway and treat, so I'm contemplating if it comes to it to apply for supermarket night shifts.

We don't do much of an evening, partner does bedtime routine with our 15 month old and 12 year old would be fine.

It wouldn't be every night, maybe 3/4 a week? Am I being naive to think it's that easy? I'm assuming with Christmas around the corner, supermarkets will be crying out for staff? And it will save a fortune in childcare (although I'd sent DD once a week, purely for the social interaction)

Do you work nights? Do you like it? How does it work for your family?

Nights are not easy even without the burden of children. If your DP works during the day you'll have a 15 month old to entertain. When will you sleep? Even if you don't do much of an evening, you still get to sleep.

It's entirely up to you but I worked nights for 2 years with a pre-schooler at home full time other than 2 mornings at nursery. It almost killed me. I had so many health problems which surprisingly went away a few weeks after I quit and got a 9-5 x

Also, yes, it did save us a fortune on childcare it was 100% not worth it x

My friend just worked 2 x 6pm until midnight. There are all sorts of shifts.

It's not all doom and gloom. My husband was made redundant 3 weeks ago, he starts a new job on Monday. He was surprised how many vacancies there are.

If you want to continue with the admin and HR I'd be looking for that first. You will earn more.

Not sure where you live but I would imagine there will be lots of supermarket jobs with varying hours.

Do you have childcare planed for your youngest if that’s the path you take?

Don’t be under the misapprehension that you can somehow nap when you work nights. You need sleep.
