Redundancy

Hi. I am at risk of redundancy and my employer has offered me a package which I want to run past an employment lawyer as I'm not sure if I am asking all the right questions or such. I'm based in London. Would any of you have any recommendations for employment lawyers or suggestions on where to start my search? Thank you.

An employment lawyer isn’t normally required to review a redundancy package. You should be able to look up your entitlements quite easily. So is there a particular issue? Do you think you have been chosen unfairly?

Hi I was wondering if anyone could provide an opinion
When going through employment redundancy, there’s 4 of us as risk on our shift, we have our final consultation meeting on Monday which we will be told if we are redundant or retained. Is there generally an order they will do this in? Ie will retained staff be told first or ones being made redundant?
Thanks for any input life is very stressful at the moment

Sorry I put the above post here instead of creating my own post.

Thank you for your response Florencex. Today my father in law will be laid to rest and my mother in law is very very ill. My husband is having the toughest time and so I have decided to focus on my family for the next couple of months while I can and take the package offered. I have never taken time out from work in nearly 25 years - the package will allow me to do this as well as avail of some outplacement resources to help plan my next steps back to work. Thank you so much for your thoughts. And keep well.

I've never worked anywhere where there is an order to these things. Usually managers will want to avoid making it in 'who wins/doesn't' order as there's nothing worse than people finding out from others by default before they are officially told.

We've recently had a redundancy consultation. The people provisionally selected for redundancy were notified first, then the rest of teh team eventually got a message "if you haven't been invited to a meeting you are not on the list". With a smaller team it will be more obvious I guess. It is very stressful but of course worst for the people being made redundant so they need most consideration.

@NotMeNoNo thank you. It’s awful as it’s out of everyone’s control.. thank you for your comment

It was awful, I had to do the farewell for one of my team leaving this week. You can be practical about it but there's still an emotional blow.

When I was made redundant in August I got 300 quid and they couldn't even be bothered to send me my P45. Thanks a lot!

@NotMeNoNo I can imagine it’s very difficult to deliver this news. Horrendous times for everyone at the minute.

@CoronaIsWatching I’m sorry to hear that, I hope you manage to find new employment

I've used Landau Law. They were pretty good. If your company is paying for the review it's free.
