Long term sickness and holiday

Hi I have been on long term sick since March, I carried over 2 weeks of holiday from last years allowance (April 19 - March 20). I am hoping to return next month but I have 9 weeks of holiday to book and there are only 4 weeks free to book. Can I carry the remaining 5 weeks over to the next holiday year?

You’ll need to discuss that with your HR

That depends on your work policy. In general, no, if carrying over leave isn’t allowed at your company.

In our place you lose a day's holiday for each whole month you're off sick.

So if it's same for you then you can deduct 5 or 6 days from that total.

I believe they have to let you carry some over if it's a reasonable amount and you're unable to take them between now and end of year. What is a 'reasonable' amount is down to interpretation though.

Actually, you can carry some over if you are on long-term sick. ACAS:
Long-term sick leave

If someone has not been able to use their holiday because they’ve been on long-term sick leave, they can carry it over.

“Employees on long-term sick leave can carry over 4 weeks’ unused holiday, unless the employer allows more to be carried over. This holiday must be used within 18 months from the date it’s carried over.”
