There's no official shielding but we have two people who have letters from their doctors saying they should not return to work "if possible".
It's not possible for them to wfh but the doctors have stopped short of signing them off.
So, whilst we could insist on them returning and comply with the letter, they are very much of the opinion that we would be unreasonable to do so. I can absolutely understand that they are anxious about returning and we will do what we can to give them the safest roles etc, but there will still be risks, compared to staying at home.
How are other employers dealing with this? FWIW it's public sector, the shielding has been on full pay and they clearly expect this to continue. If they were granted compassionate leave, for example, that would be paid. We'd do a few weeks on that basis but this has no end date.
