Ventilation at work

Hi all, just wondering if anybody knows about the law re ventilation in the workplace.

Where I work recently had an office extension and now we have 4 people working in the main office (plus 1 more person who will be moving in with us) which has no opening windows and no ventilation system.

The original office had 3 windows but that end of the office has been partitioned off as 2 separate offices for 2 managers, this means the only way we get air circulation is for them to keep their office doors and windows open and to keep the main office door open into the warehouse but this is a fire door so shouldn’t really be propped open all day.

Plus when it gets to winter it will be too cold to have the doors open so we will get no air circulation at all, is this allowed?

Sorry to hear you’re in this situation. I don’t think this is okay, given the need for Covid Safe workplaces.

Have a look on here:
www.hse.gov.uk/coronavirus/equipment-and-machinery/air-conditioning-and-ventilation.htm

One thing to bear in mind is that an air conditioning system that does not draw in air from outdoors is riskier than no ventilation at all (just in case that is given as a solution).

May be worth giving the HSE a call to see how best to raise the issue with your employer. www.hse.gov.uk/contact/concerns.htm

I doubt there are laws, more likely just guidelines.
Could tweet your basic question (280 chars?) to @cibse.
