I'm not doing well.. confidence knocked!

I joined Scentsy after thinking about it for a long time. A couple of other ladies started doing it locally and I wish I had started it first. I've been doing it for a month and I'm not getting many sales at all.
I thought it would simply be taking orders and processing them, but I was encouraged to do 'offers' and 'specials', which I didn't realise was by using my product credit once I had got enough sales. I've taken orders at this 'special' price for 3 people but because I haven't had enough sales for my product credit to kick in, I have to either tell them I can't do it for that price or foot the extra cost out of my own pocket. The other 2 girls doing it seem to be doing really well, and working all these special prices that have people jumping at them. I can't even get enough to do an order. If I'd have known you had to use your own credit and almost manipulate the system to get money off I wouldn't have bothered. It's not fair on people like me that can't get the volume of orders to do it.
Its knocked my confidence as I just feel like I've been crap at most jobs I have done or haven't stuck to them. It just feels like another thing to add to my failure list!

Listen to The Dream podcast - it's eye opening.
All these multilevel marketing business are a scam for the people like you on the bottom. Stop now and cut your losses. You'll just end up buying stock yourself if you carry on and lose a fortune. Stop today.

ReturnofSaturn · 22/08/2020 15:12

It's a scam, it's nothing to do with how good you are, basically you have been scammed.

They are all the same these companies so please don't ever join a different one either.

Here’s a Scentsy experience (though bad experience in Scentsy is the same bad experience in any MLM, as anyone who has hopped from one MLM to another will tell you). mlmtruth.org/2017/12/21/tiffs-scentsy-shenanigans-my-mlm-experience/

I just want to add:

The entire purpose of this business model is to knock your confidence in such a way that you look up to those faking it and keep trying. So don't feel bad yourself, but start getting angry with those who have purposely broken you down in order to make money from your continued investments. That's the very reason they recruited you. Not your income and wellbeing. Just their own income.

It's an evil business model and those who have recruited you don't give a shit about you.

If you want to know just how dodgy these MLM scams are here’s a link to the documentary mentioned above - Secrets of the Multi Level Millionaires: Ellie Undercover.

Its MLM, you are doomed to failure and it is not your fault. The other people you see having "success" are also losing money like you but lying about it.

Watch this video from a former member of an MLM (one of the 1% who actually succeed). She spills the beans on the tragic reality of MLM.

YouJustDoYou · 23/08/2020 09:32

It's an MLM, which is just a scam.

CanIBeGingerSpice · 24/08/2020 00:24

Thank you everyone very much. Its made me realise I think I'm probably just fighting a losing battle with it and its not my fault! x

I know it's an old thread but did you get out? My sister just got involved with an mlm... I didn't know about them until a couple of weeks ago but now it really annoys me being bombarded with Facebook adverts for some new amazing product as I felt socially pressurised into liking my sister's page.... It's like a guilt thing...as a recipient of an invite from a family member you feel obliged to support or even buy...even product you do not want or if its overpriced.... I'm really happy with my off the shelf simple moisturiser and will only use one brand of sun cream as it prevents allergies and I just don't like products being hard marketed and am not a great fan of make up... I just don't use it. I get enough bubble bath and lotions for presents to last me five years and I end up throwing stuff away so I definitely and positively hate being sold to by anyone, be that door to door salesman or by family... I don't mind speaking to sellers if I initiate it and want a product or servicr... So no it's not your fault... I expect many people just don't want unsolicited sales pitches. We are bombarded with it every day through advertising and cold calls.. Hardly surprising people run a mile. But that's not personally your fault....don't let anyone demean your worth just cos you cannot flog a product ... They're in it for money not caring about you. You are never a failure and owe nothing to a company or organisation who pays you nothing for promoting their business...

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 22/04/2021 17:39

Agree with all the other posts here.

Ask yourself this, how many reputable fields sales companies do you know make their employees buy all the products upfront rather than supply the merchandise? Eg Do Avon? The Body Shop? Ann Summers? Scentsy's business model is disgusting.

Cut your losses, OP. There are easier ways to make a living.

Wowthisisreal · 22/04/2021 18:05

@Gingernaut not sure would I would consider Avon an MLM to be honest. It's just an ordering service... same as Webb ivory back in the day. There's no risk to the rep.
