Hi all,

So, I'm currently on maternity leave and have decided that I do not want to return to my current job role, I have been doing admin/reception/assistant roles for years and seem to not be progressing at all or working my way up as such...

I've researched for the last few months and feel like I would really like to get into a career in HR, I'm looking for advice from fellow mums/dads who have taken up a career in HR and if you can share any tips and info on how you got to where you are, how you started etc and Amt general advice for me...

I've looked into doing my CIPD course as I've read this is a great qualification to have if I want to progress or even get into this particular sector, is this true?

I'm very willing to do any course of it means eventually getting into a real career and working my way up the HR ladder as such...

I am local to London and am able to travel to the many places that offer the CIPD courses.

Thanks in advance

X

If you want HR with no background you need CIPD, it's time consuming and expensive. Would your current employer support you through it? There's a gazillion graduates floating around for generic 'hr' roles.

I did think that would be the case, I am looking to actually leave my current employer in the near future (possibly not return after my maternity leave is up I still haven't decided yet) as it's a very small company and no HR department as such, the director deals with everything HR related so there is no room for development for me in this company. I am financially stable and the money for the courses and getting by for the next year or so isn't so much an issue I have savings etc and my partner is very stable also... I will do some research into getting booked onto a CIPD course as soon as I can.

Thank you for your insight

You might want to look in to an online course. Try going to the CIPD website and looking at Avado online courses. Be hasty though, as they start up in early September.

Are you looking at starting with the level 3 or level 5?
CIPD is definitely the right starting point.
Can I ask why you want to do it? (Nosey). I've worked in HR, feel free to ask me any questions.
