Should I mention it?

My previous job but one lasted for 5 years, service ended because of Covid. Found another job with NHS, was a disaster, stress levels through the roof, unsafe practice, resigned after 3 weeks. This was 2 weeks ago.
I have a job interview on Friday, do I keep quiet about the 3 week job or mention it ? I don’t want to look like a job hopping flake, but want to remain professional.
What would you do in this position?

Won't they need a P45 which will show them as your last employer?

Bargebill19 · 11/08/2020 22:45

Depends on what type if job you are going for. You don’t have to hand in your p45. Tax can be sorted without it.

Cazz246 · 11/08/2020 22:51

I have a p45 from my 5 year employer it is actually wrong and shows I left them on July 29th . I am also claiming JSA.
The job I’m going for is HCA at a medical centre.

Could try the don,t lie, but don,t say unless asked approach?

Haffdonga · 11/08/2020 23:00

What did you put on your CV or application form initially?

I wouldn't mention it in the interview unless specifically asked (unlikely) but you must have had to decide whether or not to declare it already presumably.

Cazz246 · 11/08/2020 23:01

June 2007 that’s what my son said, I’m worried if don’t say anything and get found out I’ll look dishonest. But if I do mention it , it could go against me .
Bit of a rock and a hard place

In that case, I would just not mention it. As pp said don’t lie but don’t bring it up either.

I doubt it will come up at the interview.

Cazz246 · 11/08/2020 23:03

Haffdonga, I applied the day I resigned and was really upset and forgot to update my CV , so that just shows my long term job as my last employer.

Well, we are all human. !

FluffyKittensinabasket · 12/08/2020 12:31

Don’t mention it. If it’s a big company, the payroll team processing your P45 won’t know your history. Or you can just fill in a New Starter form instead.

I once left a job after half a day and another job after a couple of weeks, never mentioned them since!

Haffdonga · 12/08/2020 17:09

Then I wouldn't mention.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 13/08/2020 15:24

Dont put it on your CV but if you have to undertake vetting, you'll need to mention it then and just explain that you didn't feel it necessary to list it on your cv due to short tenure etc

Just to update, I had my interview yesterday, I came clean with the “ tell us about yourself “ question.
No idea what they thought, said they appreciated me telling them and where pleased with the experience I’d gained while being there.
I don’t think I would want to work there however, ( don’t want to make the same mistake twice)
Two people interviewing me , one ( Nurse Manager) was really nice, the second ( practice Manager) was horrendous, she sat there looking like she was sucking on a wasp the entire interview. When she asked a question she started gazing out of the window half way through my answer. I was actually asked why I had applied for the job there and not at a practice elsewhere. I made the wasp really sting when I replied “ I have, twice “!

I can’t imagine having to work for someone who is so obviously pissed off with life, she’s borderline rude whilst interviewing.
The don’t think for one minute I was successful ( hopefully not) I was only in for 15 - 20 mins.
Will hear from them in the week 🙁

If you don’t want the job, just let them know now rather than wait. Thus it gives someonelse a fair chance.
Good for you for bring it up, going to the interview and deciding it’s not for you! Better for you to know now, rather than having to do a job you know you hate.
I hope you fine the right job for soon - it really does make all the difference to your working life if you find an environment that works for you!

Cazz246 · 15/08/2020 13:08

It felt very much like going from chip pan into the fire.
They always offer the successful person first, so if that person turns it down, they just go to the next on the list.

Bargebill19 · 15/08/2020 14:27

You may be that successful person!! This thread does show that can happen.
Good luck for the future - knowing what you want and having the courage to go for it, plus being able to spot the red flags is a skill which should be taught in schools.

Cazz246 · 15/08/2020 14:39

Barg haha! I think that skill comes with age and wisdom! Also, of becoming intolerant of bullshit !
