Worried about turning down a potential job offer...

I had a virtual interview via FB today and after the interview and talking a bit about the job I realised it will be a step back in my career and I wouldnt be happier working the hours involved. I think I'm going through a bit of a rough patch and applied in haste due to my current management pissing me off however I love the job itself just not the company. The thing is I think the interview did go well and I think they had another candidate to interview so are going to let me know tomorrow the outcome. What do you or think I should do? I feel such knob head wasting their time. I may not even get it but still I feel awful especially when I really sold myself giving the impression I wanted it.

You are allowed to change your mind. If they offer you the job thank them for their time but you've had a think and it's not right for you. They will respect you for being honest. But you know more then when you are in the job xx

An interview is a two way street. Many candidates decide the position isn’t for them after the interview. Just thank them for their time, but it’s not for you

They will know there is a chance of this , there always is with recruitment . I've had this with people turning down offers I have interviewed them for and done this myself a few times for various reasons. It's never been an issue. To be honest twice its strengthened my position with them as when a future opportunity has come up that has been more suitable they have contacted me to see if I would like to apply.

I would just be polite and professional, thank them for the opportunity and just say the current role is not the right timing for you.

OK thank you, my anxiety is on overdrive as hate talking in the phone etc and have no idea how they will contact me. I'm hoping it will be email or messenger which will make it easier. Do you think I should inform them straight away or wait for the to contact me? They may not offer me job.

You are under no obligation to take further action, so don't give yourself a moments more anxiety.

If they email you, it's a simple email response to say thank you but I've decided not to proceed further with my application.

If they don't contact you, no need to take any further action.

I think you should email them now purely for the sake of your anxiety. Then it is over and you don't need to give it headspace.
