How should I play this

I currently work part time but looking to go full time to earn extra money.

I have been for a job interview today. If I get offered the job it will be £6k a year more.

If they offer how quickly do I have to give an answer?

Could I go to my current employer and tell them I have been offered a full time job, and could they offer me full time? If they say yes that would be £10k a year more.

How would you play this?

I got offered a job and said yes subject to seeing the contract, at which point I told my current employer who made a counter offer and I stayed- never signed the contract. Happens all the time, the new employer will always have this risk and nothing is in place until signed.

Yes of course you can. If they ring and offer you the job, say that you would like X time to think about it and will let them know. You won't be able to keep them waiting for long though. Then you need to immediately contact your current employer.

If you'd be perfectly happy to stay where you are if they could give you more work why didn't you just ask that question first? Might have saved all the hassle of applying for jobs!

Might have saved all the hassle of applying for jobs! because employers respond to requests better when they are at risk of losing a good employee. Also it’s good to see what else is out there, many factors to consider when moving jobs.
