Does anyone know if u would be better working minimum wage at 25 hours or 30 with regards to take home pay and tax/universal credit. As a single person. Ta.

Depends on number of children, their age, whether you're claiming housing allowance.

I am in rented accommodation, no children.

If no disability to take in to account you’ll be expected to work 35 hours a week

Try putting both scenarios including the wage earned and childcare/commuting costs into a spreadsheet and include calculations from turn2us or entitledto or whatever it's called now. There will be tax calculators as well online which you can use.

In that situation, you're unlikely to receive any uc. You maybe entitled to the housing element, but if under 35,i believe that will be upto the rate for a room in a shared home. You'd be best advised to look at entitledto website to see.

If you were awarded uc and worked less than 35 hours they'll expect you to seek a 35 hour role or a 5 hours second job.

Why should the rest of us be expected to subsidise you. You should work as many hours as you can (unless you have a disability).

Let's be fair, many people, regardless of relationship and child status would work pt if they could. And if working 5 hours less got you "free" money or housing allowance, you'd be mad not to consider it when you're talking about minimum wage work.

Generally speaking the more you work the better off you will be but for you exact amounts you will need to add a lot more detail so you would be better off using a calculator like this one

Thanks everyone. I do have children but they don't live with me so obviously I need time so I can see them but to pay my own living costs too.

You’ll still be expected to work 35 hours unless you have something like court ordered contact/childcare arrangements that prevents you from working more
