Is this a fair redundancy

Hi

I'm pretty certain the answer to this is yes, it's fair but I just wanted to get peoples opinion.

My business is reducing head count due to covid and my job has been put at risk. Currently going through the consultation period.

I'm the only person who does my particular role in the organisation, they are saying there is still a need for the role however they believe they will get by letting certain individuals across the business pick the work up.

So basically they will have around 15 people doing parts of the job along with their usual day job? Guessing this is ok but just wanted to get peoples perspective? Obviously this will take up a chunk of their chargeable time so will still be at a cost to the business.

Many thanks

Yes, that is ok as long as this is the genuine reason and they aren't using this to hide a dismissal for some other reason. They are absorbing your role into other roles thereby making your job redundant. They presumably believe they will save some money by doing so, perhaps because they think these other people already have some spare time.
