Angry and annoyed!

I started my new job last week same company different role, it was all very all over the place and not organised at all. I didn't have access to anything and no real guidance on what to do etc.
Today I received an email from an old work colleague from my old department with a rota for our enrolment period (work in a university). My new role does not require me to be on site or be involved in the enrolment period but my old job did. On this rota I have been put in to cover my old department (in essence cover my old job) every day for two months.
I left this job because I hated it, I wouldn't mind covering a couple of days but defo not the whole period. Also to top it off my counterparts in my new job are able to work from home until at least September whereas I'm now having to go in to meet hundreds of students face to face.
I'm so upset, firstly that I received this information second hand and secondly that I'm being made to be my own replacement for two months. I was really really excited for my new role and I feel let down.
I emailed my new manager and hope that they understand my disappointment that I have been put in this rota but realistically I doubt anything will change.
Is this unreasonable? I moved jobs specifically so I didn't have to do this and now I might of well have not bothered!

I e no advice- but that’s properly sh1t way to treat you. I suspect someone’s being lazy and rather than organise a replacement or cover, just assumed you would do it.
You have every reason to be cross, frustrated and annoyed.

Thanks @Bargebill19 it's a really horrible position that I'm now in. There were lots of reasons I moved away from my old department and my anxiety is now through the roof.
They haven't even started advertising for my old position so I don't think it's fair for me to cover them!

Can you bring it up with your new line manager? Although I suspect that you may get the ‘old take one for the team’ reaction. Or you may find that they didn’t know about this and will also think it’s inappropriate. Someone may come along with a better suggestion.
(If it was me, I would probably be looking for any other job right now and feel as if I was being managed out the door.)

Have you checked it's not just a mistake? Maybe they did the rota before you left and forgot to change it?

yetAnotherWeasly · 04/07/2020 22:28

@beautifulxdisasters it was created last Thursday as I thought it was a mistake at first. I double checked with my old manager who confirmed that she expected me to be helping my old team.

Have you spoken to your new manager?

If so what was the reaction?

If not, make a list of why that might adversely impact your new role and plans/needs for progression (keep it factual and professional) and talk to your new manager.

Why does your old manager get to pull you back in? Do you have to work some internal "notice period" for your old department?

So update.
I've been told basically it's tough. My old department are short staffed so there is nothing they can do. I argued that it wasn't fair that they've had 4 months to advertise my job now and my new manager agreed and an advert had just gone up which is no use to me now at all.
I was then told it will only be for the first couple of weeks but the official rota which is circulated to all staff shows I'm on there for the whole two months. I don't know what more I can say to my new manager. I'm really upset by this and even if I hand my notice in my period is 3 months meaning I'd not get out of it anyway.
I've even come up with working solutions but I've been ignored.
