Is there a government scheme that tops up wages if employees are doing a percentage of their hours ?

I have googled this but can't find any concrete facts. Originally I was furloughed then the boss advised we were to do 50% of our hours but full pay and he has now increased it to 70% hours but still full pay. He states this is to keep us all safe , as the staff do different days. However he is very self centred and extremely tight so I'm thinking he must be claiming something off the government as he doesn't really care about our well being only his own pocket ! Does anybody know ?

So you're doing 70% of your work but getting full pay?

pumpkinpie01 · 03/07/2020 11:01

Yes that's right.

I think that part time furlough will be possible in the future, but wasn't under the original scheme. So this may be fraudulent if he has claimed government furlough for it.

@Sawsajis so you think he could be pretending we are still furloughed? I wouldn't put anything past him , he is so tight! I have got a feeling he is going to be funny about holidays later in the year and wouldn't be surprised if he points out how generous he has been over the last few months when I ask for my full entitlement ( which I do need for school hols ).

As I understand from 1st July you can work part time and your employer pays for that, but then can claim furlough payment for the rest of your salary. That's what's happening in my company when we open tomorrow.

pumpkinpie01 · 03/07/2020 11:29

@Rosiesma I have been back since 1st June . 2 weeks at 50% then increased to 70%. There is plenty of room for us all to be in the office and still social distance , I can't help thinking he is playing the system , which would be typical of him but so wrong.

You have no way of knowing if he's claiming on the furlough scheme for June. He might not be claiming a penny but still choosing to pay you all full pay for doing less than your full hours.

pumpkinpie01 · 03/07/2020 12:03

@worriedandannoyed , can he claim on the furlough scheme for June even thou we have been in the office ? As I understood it furloughed meant you should not be undertaking any work for your employer.

No he shouldn't be claiming. Unless he's fiddled his figures and he's going to claim for 70% of the month to get 70% of your wages paid for. It's quite complicated and there are many people fiddling but very few ways of being found out!

pumpkinpie01 · 03/07/2020 12:43

I bet that's what he's doing then , just paying us 30% and the government are paying us 70%. There is no way he would have us one reduced wages but full pay unless he was benefiting in some way. I can't find any such scheme on the internet thou.

There is no such scheme. It's very complicated. They're are many ways of abusing the furlough scheme but without hard evidence it is hard to prove

pumpkinpie01 · 03/07/2020 13:18

@worriedandannoyed so when employees come out of furlough do they have to sign anything ?

OP posts:
worriedandannoyed · 03/07/2020 13:28

There are guidelines set by the government but nothing official is submitted to HMRC when they do the claim

Ilovewillow · 03/07/2020 13:42

The scheme is as follows for June onwards (unless altered at some point!!):
Jun-20 80% claimable up to £2,500 gross cap
Jul-20 80% claimable up to £2,500 cap; however, part time working is now permissable with 80% furlough paid on the non-working element only
Aug-20 as July but NI and Pensions cont. now fully funded by the Employer
Sep-20 70% claimable up to £2,190 gross cap, no NI or Pensions part time permissable
Oct-20 60% claimable up to £1,875 gross cap, no NI or Pensions - pt permissable

If you were working in June and he was claiming furlough that is not allowable.

pumpkinpie01 · 03/07/2020 13:44

Thank you , I'm guessing he is pretending we are still furloughed 🤔. ( this is the boss who has bought lots off PPE equipment incase there is a surge in cases and he can sell it at a profit )
