Redundancy consultation but asked to go back to work .

So I including many of my colleagues have been furloughed since March .
The industry we work in has not been open.
Just over 2 weeks ago I had the first of 3 redundancy consultation meetings I was told should hear something within a few days .
A bit over a week later I received a letter to say the industry is now opening and I will be flexible furloughed . I was very happy on receiving this news and this followed by a phone call that I'd be back 2 days a week.
I've then received another letter that I have my 2nd redundancy meeting.
I was a bit miffed that potentially I could be in the office for 2 weeks then made redundant.
So after 15 weeks not working I'd then get back into to be let go .
My dh is outraged on my behalf he said it's unnecessary to bring the staff back if making redundant the following week , I have to agree .
I understand they have to make cuts but this feels a bit unfair .
Obviously I don't want to loose my job and I've said so .
What does anyone think is this the norm ?

From your employer's point of view, they may have a reduced need for people to do the work you do but presumably it still needs to happen. So I disagree with your husband. His view is, in essence, that the business should close down and do nothing until it has finished the redundancy process. That is unlikely to help your employer survive.

If you weren't on furlough you would be expected to continue working until the redundancy process was complete. This is no different. I know it feels different because you've been furloughed but the industry is now re-opening. If your employer doesn't also re-open they are likely to lose out.

Yes I did say that to him kinda , I don't think he understands how it works .
I think he feels it's bad timing and that they should wait until redundancy and see how things are in a few weeks now everything is reopening .
I've explained to him that we have a team of accountants examining the budgets etc but he doesn't get it .
Also many have been working throughout but wfh and only recently reopened.
Do you know when they say 30 day consultation does it have to be done within 30 days or can it take longer. ?
It's just that when I have my 2nd meeting it's 3 weeks into the consultation now so will have to be a bit of a conclusion soon.

Some people may have volunteered for voluntary redundancy during this time

prh47bridge · 03/07/2020 12:28

The 30 day is a minimum. It is up to your employer how long it takes. However, they probably want to get it over and done with as quickly as they can.

They did say if any takes voluntary it will be shorter. I see 30 days is minimum so it could be longer then .
Thanks for the posts .

It's such an unknown time, DH has just been told he's under the process and will have to wait 5 weeks for a decision. I would rather them just tell him now if he's going, but that's not allowed.

imstillfurloughed · 03/07/2020 12:47

I agree @Mitzdob I'd rather know .
I get that they have work to be done so need us back now it's allowed to be flexi furloughed and it's only fair to bring everyone back rather than a few .
I think the redundancy process is fair it just seams a bit drawn out .
I suppose it's the same for most just fingers crossed it will be fine.
