Interviewing for a more senior role in lockdown

LockdownMess · 29/06/2020 18:03

Just that really.

More senior role, different company, over webex.

Challenges - I look like a lockdown mess/confidence has plummeted/ have a lot of stresses going on in current role and at home

Plusses - would love this job!

Any tips on anything please? (Interview is on Friday...)

Well done getting the interview, that's a really positive step, they obviously like your CV and qualifications.

Health and Beauty

  • facial the day before to give your skin a lift
  • clothing, go for whatever you would have worn to the interview
  • wash and deep condition your hair and blow dry it the best you can. I guarantee you, as long as it looks well presented, they won't give it a second thought.
  • Check on YouTube, there is some great advice on looking good on Zoom, Skype, WebEx conferencing platforms. It's all about the lighting and position of the camera.

Night before

  • re read your CV to be sure they won't ask you questions you can't answer.
  • review the advert, focus on what they're looking for, capabilities, strengths, what the job will be doing (rememberIng to think of a 'negative to a positive' answer if they ask you the naff question about what is your weakness, you don't have any, you're fantastic, and you're trying your best to learn not to be too much of a perfectionist and take too much on! Get my drift?)

Leave the stress outside, don't bring it into the room you're doing your interview, forget everything else for the 45 min interview!

Get your computer set up at least an hour before, so you can check the compatibility, even if you've already done it, do it one last time an hour before.

I had a Webex interview on Monday. I looked up hints and tips beforehand.

Dress as for interview, including shoes. Avoid patterns that may jar on screen.
Find a good blank wall to sit against, and a chair that doesn't squeak.
Ensure you get the height of your camera correct. My laptop was perched on 2 fat books.
Good lighting is important, preferably with a window in front of you.

I also kicked my family out of the house. They though this was overkill, but I knew that if I heard them even quietly It would out me off. I also knew I would be put off at the thought of them hearing me.
