If you are a temp does it mean you can be asked to leave say as they have no more work but when you are perm you have more security and possibly better conditions?

Not quite. Whether you're permanent or temporary, you can easily be dismissed during the first two years of employment regardless (although if you are designated as temporary they might be more likely to do so).

Terms and conditions can't be less favourable because of fixed term status, you have to be treated the same.

No such thing as a permanent job.. I've had 3 month fixed term contracts that turned into permanent roles and a perm job where I was made redundant after 8 months.

After two years you get more employment rights whether you are temp or perm. If you're perm to begin with I suppose that's a sign the employer sees you as a long term option, but it is still very easy to be 'got rid of' in the first two years, barring discrimination issues.

Benefits such as pensionable service and additional holiday are accrued regardless of type of contract. Have you asked about sick pay etc? Is it on your company intranet? Are you paid by company or via an agency?
