AIBU - I don't want to make a work video for social media

My manager has requested that I make a couple of short videos for use on our university's social media. Just an explanation of the service we offer to students (I work in one of the support services).

One of my colleagues is known for being extremely protective of his online presence, and hasn't been asked to do this as a result. He's been in the post for years though, so has a bit more say?

I feel so uncomfortable about this, but am really scared of saying no. I'm quite new in the job, and my boss and I didn't have the best start.

I don't feel comfortable in front of the camera at the best of times, I never post videos on my own social media, and very few photos.

Am I being unreasonable to refuse to do this? I would really appreciate some input.

Why can't you be the one who is responsible and interview a few staff as part of the video? Share out the appearing on camera pain?

It should not be linked to you on your social media. It should just be on the work page with maybe first names (or work emails if they are there on the website anyway).
And yes I could probably watch a video of my university department admin team and link names to faces but I can do that anyway in person.

I wouldn't want to do it either, but don't think it is an unreasonable request considering your role.

Why he asked you and not the other guy is irrelevant.

Offer to write the script and get someone else to deliver the lines. Tell him you can't appear on social media as your abusive adoptive parents from the cult you joined at 13 will come and find you!
Being serious, I refused to have my pic on our work website and my bosses were fine. They can't make you do this.

@Hedgehog44 I think I might have to just come up with an excuse. It's a reasonable request for him to make, but I also feel that I should have the right to say no.

Good luck! I would feel exactly the same as you.
