This is very difficult to write. I am a care worker been in this amazing job for seven years- in a home for complex needs. I adore my job it is a vocation and I love the place I work at.
3 weeks ago I made a med error and gave a service user meds meant for lunch at breakfast. SU was ok and obvs this was reported to safeguarding and CQC. I knew immediately my mistake but it was too late. Within two mins I had informed my manager. I did wrong hands up, I failed in my duty of care. However now I am having a gross misconduct disciplinary meeting with a likely outcome of dismissal. I'm devastated and I can't believe it. Does anyone have an advice? Or been in this situation? Thanks Adele

Thank goodness the person was ok. Hopefully flagging the error ASAP will go in you favour. But all you can do is apologise give and extenuating circumstances and accept your punishment. My father was overdosed on his medication and ended up in hospital for a few weeks. As far as I know the person kept there job.

Seems very unfair. Everyone makes mistakes and you reported it as soon as you realised. I have worked in a healthcare setting for many years previously and really serious errors were made and people just had to write a reflection on what went wrong. On one occasion 3 very senior members of staff were involved with giving a controlled drug to the wrong patient and nothing really happened except a verbal telling off. If you are in a union I would speak to them.

The su was fine. You reported it. What is their med system. What are they worried about the su missed their am meds? Are you up to date with your meds training. That seems pretty harsh. Are you in a union.
