Advice on impact of resigning from role after 3 days on future job prospects.

Hi I would be very grateful for any advice relating to this issue. Have excellent employment history of 20 years plus, well qualified.

Accepted a job role after being made redundant and after a couple of days it became very apparent that the role was not as outlined or a good fit and required a different skill set to that I was qualified in. I did not want to waste any more of the companies time in investing in me being being aware of this and explained this to them. I was not asked to work any notice, although willing to do so.

I am very concerned now about the impact this may impact upon my CV/future job applications and am seeking advice as to how I should broach this on my CV/ with future employers.

Would appreciate any advice.

Do you even need to mention it? I probably wouldn’t, but if you do I think it’s fairly easy to explain it just wasn’t a good fit and you knew immediately.

prh47bridge · 11/06/2020 07:52

If I were you I would simply leave this job off my CV.

Moondust001 · 11/06/2020 07:53

For three days, I would also leave it off.

GinasWig · 11/06/2020 07:54

Leave it out and forget it

On seconds thought wont you be required a p45 or something when you start a new job? Wont it link you to that 3 day job?

If you can afford it, tell them not to pay you. Then you won't have been in paid employment.

curiouslypacific · 11/06/2020 08:00

Honestly I just wouldn't even bother adding it to your CV. You have a valid reason for having left your previous employer and current circumstances would easily explain why you haven't found a new role. Don't lie on your CV, but it's there to highlight your skills and experience, not give the reader a blow by blow account of how you've spent the last 20 years.

WowLucky · 11/06/2020 08:17

Yes, just leave it off

FluffyKittensinabasket · 11/06/2020 10:35

Why would you put on in your CV? I’ve had multiple short term jobs.

Regarding the P45, pay will likely be handled by payroll, they won’t care. Or if you are that worried, do a new starter checklist instead.

Meant to add earlier - was in a similar situation before where I started job hunting after week 1.

It's how you explain it - I told a story I had been missold the role and it wasn't the right role so looking for the right role.

In my industry takes a few weeks to get into interview etc and I couldn't afford not to be working.

I do feel that honesty is the best idea. It happens and best to get moving before you waste anyone's time training you etc

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 11/06/2020 19:38

Leave it off but if you have to disclose it (for vetting purposes, for example) then just say it wasn't a fit. I've done similar in the past and the general wisdom from the recruiters I spoke to is that if it's a one off that you can explain, not a problem. Repeated short term jobs may raise eyebrows but that's a lot different to your situation.

I just said my last job was a temp role. It was 6 months exactly but I was desperately unhappy. I made a mistake and got disciplined but I was left to stew over the weekend before meeting again with them. The director actually said ‘don’t think about not over the weekend!’ Wtaf. It was an error made due to lack of training but they were desperate to pin it on someone.

Anyone who chooses to leave a job at the current time can probably get away with saying they were made redundant, or that they would have been made redundant but due to short tenure didn't go through a process etc.
