Hi there,

I am looking at a career change and would like to get into digital marketing. I have started the Fundamentals of digital marketing course on Google Digital Garage as a starting point but would love to know what training/experience I need to get. Can any of you help? or point me in the right direction....

Many thanks!

Hello, I've just started the CIM diploma in marketing which is pricey but I'm really enjoying it and finding it very beneficial. I've mostly only done marketing for smaller companies so it has really opened my eyes to the detail bigger companies would go into when forming marketing strategies. Hope that helps

Google squared digital marketing course is great. I've heard good things about the mini MBA with Mark Ritson.

Ultimately I would say try to get a junior marketing role like an exec and keep studying on the side. You will learn more on the job.

Clearly certain industries are doing better than others at the moment, so for example consider an industry like e-commerce or online retail

Hello, friend. I can recommend you read the articles from the OWOX BI. I have recently found one about rfm analysis. Maybe it will be helpful to you as well. This brand has produced a great platform to make all the marketing tasks easier. If you are interested, you can check it, too.

Hi OP, I work in marketing so happy to share some advice!

I did CIM qualifications also. I think they're great and stand out a bit more than traditional degrees.

Other than that, consider if you want to be a digital marketing executive (lots of competition) or possibly make your entry into a more specialist area like SEO or PPC? If so, agencies are good to learn in (but long hours).

Hunspot offers free certifications on content, copywriting, email marketing. Moz has a course on SEO. Google ads also have certifications for Google ads and google analytics.

Facebook charges for their Facebook ads certifications but you can learn for free.

If you're confident in your abilities learned from theory you can volunteer with a charity or possibly break into the industry by freelancing. Best of luck!

Hi there! You are on the right way. I will give you only one piece of advice. Don't stop studying and continue improving your skills. A lot of people decided to change a career during the pandemic. I would recommend you to look for some offers and pass the interviews. The Jooble platform is good for that. There were a lot of brooklyn jobs when I started to work in a digital sphere.

@Sunflowers095 is spot on

CIM is classic route, Ritson MBA is for experienced/mid career people

Route in is to get a ‘junior’ role & work up... this may include from an intern or admin type role also (in all of the large multinationals I’ve worked in). Agree it’s more on the job learning: the CIM will show commitment though
